A White Pair Only Works If It Is Plain

Swapping to white solves nothing on its own. Lace carries a texture that reads through a thin weave even when the two colours match, and hardware puts a shadow where there should not be one, so a decorated white garment under white trousers is barely an improvement on a dark one. This has neither. A narrow front panel, thin straps, and nothing else for a summer fabric to catch on.

Underneath it is the same construction as the black: 95% cotton on a cotton lining, medium stretch, cut low so the straps land under the hip bone instead of riding whatever waistband you have on. The back is a G-string, which is the other half of the job, since cotton is forgiving but a full brief still draws a line across pale cloth. Under cream, under light denim, under anything you would not risk a dark pair beneath, this stays where you cannot see it.

The care instruction that matters is not the one on most labels. Keep it out of mixed loads for the first several washes, because a new white takes up dye from whatever is sitting beside it and never entirely gives it back. After that a cold gentle machine cycle is fine, dried flat or on a line. Bleach is out, which surprises people on a white garment, and so is the dry cleaner.
