The One You Buy After the Black One

There is a practical order to these two. The black goes under things and stays a private arrangement between you and the rest of your day. The red does not go under anything without announcing that it is there, which makes it a decision about one particular evening rather than a wardrobe decision. Most people reach it second, having already worn the black, and that is the right way round to arrive.

The shade is a deep wine rather than the bright tone the word usually promises, and since you are looking through the lace as much as at it, skin sits behind the dye and carries it darker again. In most light it lands close to burgundy. Construction is identical to the black: a scalloped floral panel with nothing lining it, two thin bands from each hip closing on a metal heart ring at the centre, a low rise and a G-string back. Sizes are XS to L, and with 90% polyamide lace giving very little, the guide's numbers are worth taking literally.

Cold water and hands only, with a mild detergent, and no wringing at any stage, because twisting a lace this open pulls the pattern out of true and it does not go back. Press the water out against a towel and leave it flat, well clear of heat, because heat in any form is closed to this one, as is bleach. Keep it away from anything carrying a hook or a zip. And settle the sizing before ordering, since opened packaging ends the exchange and the return together.
