Thumb holes / Bound back opening

Arms before legs,
because of the thumb holes

A thumb hole in the cuff sets the order this goes on in: hands through first, collar over the head, legs last. The sleeve finishes across the knuckles, so on the way out of it the thumb is the thing to free before anything gets pulled. Stretch is medium rather than high, which makes every stage of that slower than it would be on a fishnet.

01A bound back edge
A narrow flat band follows the teardrop opening the whole way round, from under the collar to the point that lands in the small of the back. It is the only edge on the piece that has been bound rather than left as knitting.
02The collar stands alone
A short band of the same lace turns up at the throat and keeps its height with no wire and no boning inside it. Nothing else on the piece sits as high, and that is what makes the cut-out behind read as a decision.
03Net stripe down each side
A band of coarser diamond mesh follows the outside edge of every sleeve and every leg from end to end. It cuts the spot pattern exactly along the silhouette, which is also where the panels meet.

Medium stretch changes how it fits

A medium-stretch knit has less give in it than an open net, so the governing measurement here is body length rather than width. On a tall frame the collar is the first part to report it, sliding down off the throat while the hip is still comfortable.

From the front it is a closed catsuit with a collar, long sleeves and no opening above the hip at all. Turn the form round and one teardrop takes out the back, widest across the shoulder blades and narrowing to a point in the small of the back.

The lace / 95% polyester

The ground is a fine honeycomb net, tight enough that from a few paces it reads as a dark textured layer rather than as a pattern. The leopard marks are worked into it in a heavier thread, and most of them are open shapes — a ring or a crescent with the honeycomb still visible through the middle. Composition is 95% polyester and 5% polyamide.

A pulled thread in an open lace will run, so keep nails, rings and anything with a clasp away from it going on and coming off.

Transparency is constant across the garment, the spots included, so the deciding factor is whatever sits underneath. Bare skin makes it lingerie. A black bodysuit, or ordinary underwear, turns it into something that works on the street, and that is how it is styled in most of the pictures here.
